The animal's sanctuary

A space on the sea floor near Antarctica was recently explored by a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), which found previously undiscovered species of octopus, barnacles, sea anemones, starfish, and yeti crab.

The hydrothermal vents that heat the East Scotia Ridge can reach 382 degrees Celsius, said the team that made the discovery. The team was led by the University of Oxford, University of Southampton and British Antarctic Survey. These creatures get their energy from breaking down chemicals, rather than the sun which doesn't reach this dark area.

Lucky for these animals that it's so hot and dark there, or the Discovery Channel would have a show about a bunch of crazy dudes mining there.
