Trail Days

Damascus, Virginia is hosting the 25th annual Trail Days this weekend. This is a great opportunity for people interested in a thru hike to get some insight and those who have completed, or attempted, one to give some.

This, the world's largest backpacking event, is a great event, but it stinks. Literally. At least I'd think so, considering showering isn't on top of most thru hikers' priority lists.

To be fair, the event offers hikers free showers daily along with coffee, food, medical screenings, and internet access. I think I'd pass on the last one. I never understood yearning for virtual connectivity in the backcountry.

I guess hikers could use this opportunity to post pictures. Or, they could use stolencamerafinder.com to find out what A-hole stole their camera.

The site searches photo sharing sites for a matching serial number using a photo that you drag and drop, or a photo's serial number which you enter.

Hopefully this technology will encourage people to do the right thing: take reenactment shots of yourself finding the camera on the trail then turning it into the rangers.

The site boasts over 1 million stolen cameras spotted in their database.
