Can you hear me now? Good.

Have you ever thought that climbing Mt. Everest sounds fun, but you just couldn’t do without your cell phone for ten weeks? Well fret no more!

“Wireless provider Ncell has expanded their 3G service to the Everest area,” reports Sarah Esterman for Wend Magazine.

Although I’m sure the good folks at Ncell know the importance of up-to-date Facebook statuses on the mountain, providing cellular coverage for 90% of Nepal is an effort to close the digital divide.

The 9-year-old boy training for the trek will be able to keep his blog, Twitter, and Facebook updated throughout the journey. At 9, I would’ve rather used the phone for sweet video game apps.
9-year-old Tseten and his father, Sherpa Pemba Dorje, plan on making a summit bid in 2011.

First flies on Everest, now cell phones. Is there anywhere someone can just get away anymore? I may have to take up scuba diving.
